How it scores for you10 scores
A genuinely rugged, hybrid-powered off-roader with legendary durability and strong towing, but thirsty fuel economy and five-seat-only packaging temper its family appeal.
Recalled about as often as cars of the same model years (over-the-air software recalls count half); none of its 4 recalls were serious. About 3% of its owner complaints describe a crash, fire or injury. Based on recalls and serious defect reports — it doesn't capture everyday repairs or problems fixed by warranty extensions. Adjusted +8 points for its wider reputation.
4-star overall NHTSA crash rating (frontal 4, side 5, rollover 3).
About $3,550 a year in fuel (EPA estimate) — cheaper to run than about 12% of cars we track.
34.6 cu ft of cargo space — more than about 82% of other SUVs we track.
Only 5 seats and 34.6 cu ft cargo are modest for a large SUV; no third row limits family utility versus roomier rivals in the segment.
Rugged body-on-frame capability with 326 hp turbo-hybrid and genuine off-road prowess. On-road handling is truck-like, but low-range 4WD and torque make it fun off-pavement.
Modern Toyota infotainment, digital gauges and available off-road tech. Competent but not class-leading versus luxury rivals; interior is more utilitarian than cutting-edge.
Solid ride for a body-on-frame SUV with quiet cabin, but firmer and less plush than car-based crossovers. Upright seating and off-road tuning trade some smoothness.
SUVs and hybrids usually hold their value better than average.
Rated to tow 6,000 lb; all- or four-wheel drive available.

Everytime I put my car in reserve the brakes screech so long. I have noticed it on other Land Cruisers as well. I am fearful of something happening with the brakes. Safety is obviously a priority and I have not seen anything from Toyota on this.
