How it scores for you10 scores
Exceptional fuel economy, top-tier reliability, and a perfect 5-star safety rating make this hybrid a value standout, though the sleek fastback trims rear headroom and cargo.
Reliability59

Recalled about as often as cars of the same model years; none of its 4 recalls were serious. About 12% of its owner complaints describe a crash, fire or injury. Based on recalls and serious defect reports — it doesn't capture everyday repairs or problems fixed by warranty extensions. Adjusted +10 points for its wider reputation.

Safety100

5-star overall NHTSA crash rating (frontal 5, side 5, rollover 4).

Running costs88

About $1,200 a year in fuel (EPA estimate) — cheaper to run than about 88% of cars we track.

Cargo & utility47

20.3 cu ft of cargo space — more than about 47% of other hatchbacks we track.

Passenger space48

Seats 5 with 20.3 cu ft cargo (39.3 folded), but the aggressive fastback roofline reduces rear headroom, making it slightly tight for a compact hatchback.

Driving fun52

The redesigned XW60 Prius is far sportier than predecessors with 194 hp and sharper styling, but it remains an efficiency-focused hybrid hatchback, not a driver's car. Around segment-average fun.

Tech62

Modern infotainment, available PHEV with 45mi electric range, and 5-star NHTSA overall plus Toyota Safety Sense. Solid tech but not class-leading versus premium rivals.

Comfort55

Improved ride and quiet hybrid operation are typical strengths, but the sloping roofline and low seating can compromise headroom and ingress. Slightly above segment-typical.

Value retention70

SUVs and hybrids usually hold their value better than average.

Capability30

No published tow rating; all- or four-wheel drive available.
